Tom Holland’s Fitness Tips on Strength Training

Fitness Guru Tom Holland, Co-host on Herbalife 24FIT dvds  gives tips on strength training and techniques.  He highlights the most common mistakes people make when working out in the gym.

Choosing the right weight is very important ….. Tom says “Women use weights too light and men use weights too heavy. Men want to become Arnold and women are petrified of becoming Arnold.” as in Arnold Schwarzenegger !!

I enjoyed this short video, hope you do too. Tom demonstrated how to use dumbbells correctly, choosing the right weight for your workout, not to swing arms widely and to engage your muscles.

Will post more of Tom’s tips over the coming weeks and of course will report back on my progress using the Herbalife24FIT dvds.

Herbalife24FIT DVD Review Phase 1 Stability Weeks 5 to 7

Phase 1 – Stability weeks 5 -7 using discs 1,2,3 & 4

Throughout weeks 5 – 7 the exercise routines are repeated, but in a good way and I can feel improvements in my posture, my coordination and stability.  I also feel more toned and my clothes seem not as tight.

When I started out I was a bit wobbly in some of the workout positions but now my lower body feels a lot more stable. The lunges and squats have always been ok for me because I’m used to doing these in the gym. 

I know my weakest parts of my body are my shoulders and arms as I’ve never really exercised these (being a marathon runner) but I do feel a bit stronger doing push-ups and planks. 

The low intensity metabolic workout (for fat burning) is very easy to remember and is intended for everyone, of all abilities. Sam says this is a great workout to do with your family, get the kids involved, or husband or  wife.  I totally agree as it’s a fun workout !

End of the each week is two days of rest or a recreational activity, you choose.

Nutrition –  I am using Formula 1 Sport which is an easily digestible and a nutritious pre -workout meal and Hydrate the low calorie electrolyte drink I’m taking during  the workout.  I will be using recovery drinks like Rebuild Endurance or Rebuild Strength later on in the program, when I’m sure things will get tougher.

Herbalife24FIT DVD Review Phase 1 Stability Week 4

Phase 1 – Stability –  My review – week 4 

Looking at the workout schedule this is an easy week as there are three rest days as well as one recreational activity day. 

I began the week with a rest day on day 1  

Day 2 was back to Metabolic  1 disc 4 which was a great way to start the week and to get energised. 

Day 3 focussed again on the stability workout using either disc 1, 2 or 3.  You get to pick the disc that suits your needs, so I decided to do spine and pelvis stabilization, you’ll need to scroll down the post to see my original review.

Day 4 Rest day

Day 5 same as day 3.  This time I picked shoulder stabilization, disc 2

Day 6 Rest day but as I wanted to complete the workout, I very naughtily did the total body integration, disc 3.  Not really supposed to alter the routine !

Day 7 recreational day – do something sporty like bike riding, running, hill walking or swimming.  I went bike riding.

The Stability phase is all about fixing your bodies imbalances, working the small muscle groups, the effects are not visible but you will feel a lot better.

By week 4 I feel as though I’ve had some great workouts but not overly tired, but I’m sure the routine will get harder as I get into Phase 2 Strength and Phase 3 Power.

I’m using Herbalife 24 Hydrate before, after and during the Herbalife24FIT workout.

Feedback Herbalife24FIT DVD

What feedback can you give us on the DVD? Are you a beginner/intermediate/advanced user of DVD workout programs? 

How far through the program have you made it?  Always interested to know what results you have got? What result were you aiming for? Weight loss, toning, fitness? Tracking results? Body composition analysis?

Phase 1 of the program focuses on stability.

Phase 2 is where you are going to see the greatest results.

Stability helps you improve your posture and joint health. By the time you have completed Phase 1, your body will be properly prepared for the more challenging workouts to come in Phases 2 and 3. In Phase 2 which is for strength the results will be more muscle, better tone and more efficient metabolism.

The power workouts of Phase 3 are going to turn up the intensity and they will result in a faster, more efficient body. This is the final phase and it will give you the ultimate results.

Herbalife24 FIT vs P90X Insanity

Here is a very recent review I’ve received, as it says don’t compare Herbalife24 FIT to P90X Insanity !

Sheila from Vermont, USA says” I am almost done with Week 7 and can see a difference already in the shape of my arms, back and tush! However, do not compare this to Insanity, P90X or the like. The concept is very different. Bob Forster is a physical therapist to the professional athlete world, including Kobe and Olympic medalists so it is SLOW, safe and scientifically sound for injury prevention. You may think it’s almost too easy at first but it’s based on his theory of “deconstructing the athlete”- training smaller muscle groups that heavy hitting wgt trainers ignore. Great program for every fitness level!”

Herbalife24FIT DVD Review Phase 1 Day 5 Total Body Intergration

Phase 1 – Stability – Disc 3 which is total body integration – My review – day 5

The routine started and finished with stretches.  A few minutes into the routine you’ll need lightweight dumbbells so be prepared.

First moves were squats, then single limb balances, i.e. balances on one leg – here I had megga wobbles ! Best way to get out of wobblying is to focus on one point of the floor.

Next came the squats with weights which I found easy and managed to get positioning right, side step squats where you moved about the floor.  All of these exercises great for strengthening the core muscles, quads and glutes. Then we did an isometric hold (contracting core muscles) and went into lunges.

Final exercises were planks – first the straightforward plank position, working abs and core muscles.  Check out the back muscles of the girl in pink shorts, her back looks amazing !  Then the more difficult side plank position which I’m definitely going to have to work on.

Next 2 days are rest days or recreational activity days – whichever you choose, I’m going walking or swimming.

Weeks 1-3 of Phase 1 Stability is just repeating what we’ve done this week – so my next review will be on week 4.

Herbalife24FIT DVD Review Phase 1 Stability on Day 4 Metabolic Workout

Phase 1 – Stability – Disc 4 which is a metabolic workout – My review – day 4

Now getting into the swing of this routine and concentrating on posture, if you’re used to energetic routines could be tricky keeping it low impact. Worked up a bit of a sweat, great knowing it’s fat burning as this is what week 1 Phase 1 is all about – flexibility, strength and making us better fat burners !
